About this book
An early draft of The Last Unicorn, written in 1962 and published for the first time in 2006. As in the finished novel, an immortal unicorn leaves her lilac wood to look for others of her kind, and trades witty remarks with a whiny dragon.
She meets a two-headed demon, Azazel and Webster, who are carrying a coal stolen from hell, and a plot about the exiled demon takes over the action, until the fragment breaks off. Peter S. Beagle's introduction and afterword explain how it connects with the book that was finally written.
