About this book
After a nuclear war, healers wander the wasteland with three snakes: a cobra and a rattlesnake that make medicines, and a rare dreamsnake whose bite eases the dying. The healer Snake loses her dreamsnake when a frightened tribe kills it as she tries to heal a child.
Without one she cannot work, and none can be bred. Snake goes in search of a way to replace it, and her journey takes her across a ravaged country to the remote Center, with two followers on her trail. Winner of the Hugo and Nebula awards.
